Call for photos and volunteers!

On February 26 there will be a "Navigating the Winter Sky" presentation by the Centre at the Little Cataraqui Conservation Area. It is a Saturday night and runs 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

There will be an indoor presentation with StarryNight and some planesphere, etc demos. Kim has suggested that it would be very nice to have a selection of member-taken photos of the winter sky. We know they are out there and we know they are good!

If it is clear there will be a sky tour session outside so if you can bring a scope of any kind in that event it would be great. Please email Susan if you can participate in any way.

** CANCELLED **

Posted 15:36 EDT Friday May 13th
As sometimes happens.... Weather has forced us to cancel the Friday, May 13th (tonight) observing session at Loughborough Lake Holliday Camp Ground. There is no fall back as Stirling Hall is closed for renovations.
This was our last meeting open to the public for the season. We hope you will keep and eye on the website over the summer and come out in September when we start our meetings again.
Members will meet (directions to be posted soon on the Members Only site) at a private home in June. Hopefully there will be an observing opportunity then.
Have a great summer!
Susan Gagnon

Location: Loughborough Lake Holiday Park 3060 Sydenham Rd. 8 km north of the 401 (Sydenham Road exit 613)
Stirling Hall will be closed for electrical refit for most of the month.

This will be an outdoor observing oriented meeting and as such there is the obligatory caveat... WEATHER PERMITTING! There is NO back up location. If the weather is bad, there is no meeting.

Should we be spared downpour or hurricane winds... there will be brief meeting like period for announcements begining at 8 pm. This will last only 10 minutes. This will be followed by a period of scope set up, socializing, and last minute observing plan strategizing. This is a chance to test a semi-dark site close to the city. While probably unfit for the faintest deepsky objects it may help some of us get back into the habit of getting out under the stars.
Notice to casual attendees, a good chance to look at a scope or two. Bring binoculars if you have them. We will attempt to provide red filters for small flashlights so bring them along. If there are enough beginners, non-members and members alike there will be a sky tour of the spring constellations.
Entrance fees are being covered by the Kingston Centre.
Overnight camping can be arranged on site for $10 per person.

CANCELLED - Relay for Life - Napanee
We have been unable to confirm our attendance with the organizers at this date and there would not be enough time to organize and create handout packages so we have pulled the plug and will not be attending this event this year.

We would have normally set up public observing telescopes and handout free astronomical information at the event to help out as entertainment.

A family funeral has come up and Tim will be out of the province around this date. Our condolences to Tim and his family .

9:00-10:30 p.m.
KAON Public Observing night
at Queen's University Ellis Hall Observatory.

This month's Observatory Open House will be taking place this Saturday, June 11th at 9.00pm. Our speaker is the effervescent Ms. Melanie Hall, from the Canada Science and Technology Museum and of Queen's University fame! I won't be able to attend this month's event, as I will be in Pennsylvania hunting Sydney Crosby, but I'm happy to say James Silvester will be overlooking the whole operation. Hey, maybe the skies will finally clear, since I won't be in town! The talk will be given in room 324 on the 3rd floor of Ellis Hall. I know you all love Mel, so come on, show up!!!

Clear skies would mean checking out the Moon, Saturn and maybe some pretty star clusters! I can unfortunately no longer guarantee any protection from killer swarms of flies or mosquito attacks. Sorry, guys! As always, I'm hoping to have at least 2 or 3 people join up to help out with this. Once again, if you have your own telescope or set of binoculars, feel free to bring them along as well. If you're interested in giving a hand, let me know, and I'll inform James!

Onwards and upwards!
Nathalie
