Astrophotography - John Mirtle (RASC Calgary Centre)

Walter's Notes: About 40 people in attendance. Terence Dickinson was in attendance tonight. Also Steve Spinney (Toronto Centre), who showed his slides of the January 4th annular eclipse. Steve had flown out to LA, photographed the sunset eclipse, and flown back to Toronto. Now that's dedication! Terry Dickinson did a quiz, complete with prizes. I distributed 25 copies of Ridiculous [198KB PDF, members only]. ~20 people attended the post-meeting meeting at Harvey's.

Total Lunar Eclispe

Thanks also to Chris Collin, David Stokes and Bill Broderick for a great TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE OBSERVING SESSION on December 9th. These members braved a minus 8° C chill to provide the public observing session, which was fairly well attended--and CLEAR! (For a nice change.) A nice report on the session was contained in The Whig-Standard for Thursday, December 10th.
-Regulus, 1993 Jan-Feb, page 2.

A storm system moving in from the west wrecked things for those trying to observe the eclipse from the Toronto area last December 9. By luck a couple of minutes of totality were seen from Oshawa by Walter MacDonald, thanks to a gap in the cloud cover. The totally eclipsed moon was just visible to the naked eye. Further east, the weather was clear! Otmar Eigler and Elizabeth Doucette got a clear view of the entire eclipse from north of Belleville, as did Terry Dickinson from Yarker, Ont.
